Greetings from Sarasota—
A reminder that my two podcasts—Page&Stage and 100 Plays—which bop into your inboxes on alternating Mondays, are taking a well-deserved dog days of summer break.
So for today, I’ll be sharing one more archive dive with guest updates
Come September 8, both podcasts will come boppin’ back.
Today I’m bringing back Wilma Davidson and Diana de Avila from earlier this season.
I asked them what they’ve been up to since we talked back in February, and my goodness. They are taking 2025 by storm!
Check it out—
Distinctly Diana’s Doings
This year has opened exciting new doors for my art. I was selected for a second time for a major international public art exhibition, where my work will be displayed on a billboard-scale format to reach thousands daily. My piece was chosen out of more than 14,000 international entries. I have also been invited to submit a proposal for a large-scale mural with a professional sports organization, a project that—if accepted—will bring my art into a new arena of public visibility. My work continues to be featured in public spaces like Reagan National Airport and in corporate environments through collaborations with groups such as UnitingUS and ArtLifting.
Another milestone this year was taking part in Archipelago, the first international gathering of savants held in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Although I joined from a distance, my short documentary “The Color of Genius” (based on the Book Soldier, Sister, Savant by Wilma and me) played on a loop during the event—an experience that carried deep meaning and underscored how profoundly art has shaped my journey. Returned to delivering workshops I have loved giving: Writing the College Application Essay, based on my co-authored book Writing a Winning College Application Essay. After working with adults for many years, it’s been fun returning to a teen-age audience.
Returned to my original love of writing with humor, revisiting the essays written when I wrote a column called Homespun for a local paper—hoping there is a collection there just waiting to be published about family life! (Also using more humor in the quarterly column, Words from Nerds, that Diana and I write for the national magazine of the National Association of American Pen Women called The Pen Woman.)
Wilma and Diana Together
Await release of publication date for Super Cat! Chit-Chat! It is the second in our anticipated children’s trilogy about Max, our Super Cat. We are already percolating our third book in the series. (In case you forgot, the first one is “Super Cat! Splat! Splat!)
Given and scheduled more book talks!
Write a quarterly column called Words with Nerds, for The National League of American Pen Women’s magazine.
Continue to be best buddies, encouraging and inspiring each other
The original epidose blurb: In this episode of the Page&Stage Podcast, I dive into the creative journeys of Diana de Avila, a digital artist who discovered her passion after a traumatic brain injury, and her collaborator Wilma Davidson, a communication consultant. The duo met at Sarasota Pen Women, a prestigious organization supporting female artists, writers, and composers. Together, they discuss their unique paths, the history of the Pen Women, and the upcoming Art and Found event. Listeners are invited to explore how creativity can emerge in unexpected ways and the power of artistic collaboration.
Enjoy this final dog days archive dive, and have a great week—
