Hello friends—
Typically you would have received the newest podcast this morning, and a newsletter last Friday.
But, y’know, Hurricane Milton had other plans.
Right off the bat, THANK YOU. So many of you checked in on me, Rebecca, and our pack. We were able to ride out the storm with Rebecca’s sister. While we were still in Sarasota, we were in a safe house outside all evacuation and flood zones.
Like many others in Sarasota, we wandered outside as the eye passed directly over us. It was one of the eeriest experiences… utterly calm air. Animal sounds returning. But not peaceful. More like the silence before the jump scare in a Halloween horror flick.
And sure enough. The back end of Milton was simply awful.
Rebecca and I drove back to our home on Thursday morning. I won’t bury the lead: our mighty little house survived.
But it was covered in trees. No leaks, no water inside, but fallen oaks and snapped off jacarandas and a queen palm with its heart split.
Because the huge oaks were literally on our roof, our tree service (the unbelievably wonderful Simply Trees) prioritized our property. Amber was out there by Thursday evening—can’t imagine the day she had—and Joseph and his team were there Friday morning. A more professional and kind and compassionate team you will not find.
By Saturday night, ten trees were gone, and the full damage came clear. It could have been so so SO much worse, but yeah. Gonna be doing the insurance shuffle for a while, taking care of fences and pavers and shingles and pool cages and a/c units.
While we got it bad, many have it worse, and once again it’s all about gratitude.
So I wanted to send a quick “hey there” so you all knew we were ok. I’ll get back on the regularly scheduled program this coming Friday, and I’ve got a GREAT podcast interview for you on Monday with master storyteller and public speaker/speaking coach Michael Davis.
Have a calm, recovery-filled week.
Jason “Eye of the Storm” Cannon
Oh my Jason. Laci and I are so glad that you, Rebecca and your family and friends were all able to get through the storm in one piece, although probably a little bruised and batted. Hopefully the recovery goes quickly for Florida and the rest of the areas affected by the hurricanes this year.
